He also attended the University of Oregon where he played football and wrestled. After finishing school he returned to his home town of Oroville and coached high school football and wrestling for 10 years. Taking a short break from football and wrestling, he coached his daughter's soccer team for four years. After coaching soccer, he transitioned into coaching men's gymnastics for Oroville Gymnastics. Steve is now in his 10th season of gymnastics and is humbled by the opportunity to work with the local youth and to be able to coach his son Reid. In addition to coaching the Optional Boys' Team in Oroville he has had the opportunity to work with numerous Olympians, National Team and college coaches over the past several years. He has enjoyed the challenge of learning to coach a sport he did not participate in as a youth and is thankful to be a part of the gymnastics community.
